We were suckered in to buying with Silverleaf a few years ago and regretted it almost from day one. The bonus time program is a laugh. The two resorts we visited were in serious need of repair and updating. Plus, they harass you constantly with calls saying they need you to come in to update your information and learn about the new things they are doing. They truth is they want to try to sucker you into upgrading!
We thought we were stuck with the dumb thing forever! We weren't. We deposited our weeks with RCI and traded for a trip to The Grand Mayan in Mexico. Once there, we decided to go to their vacation ownership presentation just to get some free tickets to Xel-Ha. While listening to the info and sharing about our experience with Silverleaf, we learned that they have a trade in program. In the end, we traded in our Silverleaf timeshare for more than we had paid for it! We are now members of Vida Vacations. We'll see how this one turns out, but it can't be worse than dealing with Silverleaf!
So, don't assume you're stuck with your nightmare. There are probably other vacation clubs and timeshares that will allow you to do what we did.
